I woke up at the cottage at 5 and got my gear together. It was a calm, cloudless summer morning. The sounds of song birds and water gently lapping the shore. It is hard to imagine a more perfect place then the Whiteshell at times like these.

It was a beautiful, early morning (5:30) when I arrived to one of my favorite stops along the Whiteshell River...

The air was already hot and humid and the river was extremely low...

I grabbed my float tube and headed into the "White Water" along a stretch of untouched water (Actually when the water is really high I get to this stretch by boat). It started kinda slow until I started landing a few nice pike. As the day progressed I caught my first Smallie of the day a beautiful 18" on a Dahlberg Diver (Red & White) and a great fighter I may add...

I took a bit of a break as I ate my breakfast (boiled eggs and toast) on the shore next to a beautiful little set of rapids...

I swam in the rapids a bit to cool off (It was a super hot day) and noticed many spent fishflies on the surface.

I also noticed that the small set of rapids had tons of crayfish swimming through the rocks... I figured this was probably a good time to switch to one of my crayfish patterns. As I sat next to some of the ripples in my float tube I tossed my crayfish pattern into a small eddy of deeper water.... with a few quick strips I felt a large hit in my line and the fight was on! A long fight later and a beauty 19" smallie was landed...

After that it was practically one after another all along the river and the rapids... the switch to the crayfish was the ticket. In total there were 2 x 19" bass, 2 x 18" bass, 6 smaller bass and tons of pike. Oh yeah, there were about a half dozen of these as well...

As dragonflies buzzed and landed on the tube the fishing continued to be pretty great...

I left the river at about 1:00pm, while the fishing was still great... it was a shame to leave, but I was exhausted.
